Never Normal Debuts Collection Set 001: BLACK FUTURE | NYOTA IMARA

Never Normal reveals a new collection of artifacts featuring cassettes from collective artists and wearable art inspired by the cosmos.

The first Collection Set 001, entitled “????? ?????” is Kiswahili for “Bright future/ star”, and a message of solidarity from the Continent of Africa to the cities where we reside, that Black futures are bright. It is a mantra for the Afrofuturism we live with our art, with artwork inspired by Octavia E. Butler whose vision & writings of an Afrofuture inspired our debut NYOTA IMARA Collection.

The passage found on our “Energy Mass Life” Design is from Butler’s science fiction 1998 novel “Parable Of The Talents” in which the plot is set to a dystopian United States that is the first to use the slogan,  “Make America Great Again”.

The passage reads: “HERE WE ARE – ENERGY, MASS, LIFE, SHAPING LIFE, MIND, SHAPING MIND, GOD SHAPING GOD. CONSIDER — WE ARE BORN NOT WITH PURPOSE, BUT WITH POTENTIAL.”
