This Friday the 13th, alt rap luminary KHX05 drops a new high-octane visual going “Edna Mode”, while highly inspired by ballroom dance culture and magic beyond.
The Edna Mode Remix comes with the release date announcement of KHX05 BLXCK KXT EP Remixes coming on 9.21.21 on Never Normal. The track features Legendary House of Labeija member Rozay Labeija and follows KHX05′ character harnessing the power of vogue to defeat any negative energy that comes their way during a powerful set of performances to the bass heavy beat.
On their social media, KHX05 shares:
As young black queer kid from upstate ny and migrated to the south. I struggled so much to find a sense of identity, dance was my only real outlet of expression I had growing up in a Christian household. Luckily senior year of high school is when I found ballroom through watch street dance competition on YouTube lol! Seeing beautiful black and brown trans women/queer folks ferociously spinning through the air to striking poses on the dance floor shook my soul and inspired me to start voguing down myself but not only that brought me to the realization that I was transgender. To witness women like Alloura, Leiomy, Meeka, Yolanda be so unapologetic and regal in their vogue and life in general really inspired me in my own journey as a trans women but also as a creative. I feel really blessed to have this song + video featuring Rozay, such an iconic verse. This is my way of paying homage to the culture that has inspired so much of my art. This is for ballroom!!
Edna Mode Remix is now available through Bandcamp, and more remixes are set to drop over the next few weeks. Pre-save the project by clicking here.
