Bay-area artist, rapper, and Never Normal Soundsystem collective member Queens D. Light emerges from a brief hiatus to drop Flavor Of Green, her newest self-directed visual. The video showcases a moment from QDL’s world, filled with wonder, nature, beats and bars.
Some of that wonder, displayed in the video, is actually inspired by the artist’s questioning of society’s patriarchal notions. As QDL repeats the lyrics:
He said he only wants the best of me, what would he do with the rest of me?
She raises question to feeling marginalized as a woman in modern day society. Yet, as shared by the artist, to combat those feelings Queens D. Light impressively hired an all-woman team to produce, shoot, edit and costume design the Flavor Of Green visual.
Flavor Of Green drops just days ahead of Queens D. Light’s weekend performance at FEELS Festival in Richmond, California -where she joins other femme-empowered acts including Kelis, Princess Nokia and Bbymutha. The same-titled EP is due out next week.
Watch the visual above, and stay tuned for more sound from Queens D. Light soon.
